A café break near Gyeongbokgung can also be a chance to see something beyond the palace. Cafe Boan (카페보안) belongs to Boan1942, a cultural complex in Seochon that brings together a café, bookshop and exhibition spaces. It is a useful stop to consider when you are already exploring this side of the palace, especially if independent art spaces interest you.
The address is 33 Hyoja-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul. Save 서울 종로구 효자로 33 and the café’s Korean name before setting out. Searching for 카페보안 distinguishes the café from the wider complex and its accommodation.
A café within a cultural space
The Korea Tourism Organization describes Boan1942 as a former inn site that developed into an art space and later a broader cultural venue. Alongside the café are a bookshop, exhibition areas and Boanstay accommodation. That combination is the reason to put it on a Seochon walking route: you can look into the current programme before deciding whether to make this a drink stop or a longer visit.
Check each space separately. An exhibition timetable is not necessarily the café’s opening timetable, and being able to enter the café does not establish that a show is running. If a particular exhibition is the draw, confirm its dates before travelling.
The drink in the Korean archive
The Korean archive features an iced matcha latte, 아이스 말차라떼. Keep the Korean name handy when checking the current menu; drinks and prices can change.
A useful question is 아이스 말차라떼 있나요? — “Do you have an iced matcha latte?” If you need a milk substitute, ask what is available before ordering; the archive does not establish the café’s current alternatives.
